Zenless Zone Zero Version 1.1 'Undercover R&B' Update Brings New Agents and Events

HoYoverse rolled out Zenless Zone Zero's Version 1.1 update, titled "Undercover R&B," on August 14, 2024, and the patch introduced a wealth of new content that continues to shape the game's meta and narrative. The update, which took approximately five hours to deploy, brought three new playable Agents, fresh story episodes, limited-time events, and a long list of optimizations. As of 2026, this version remains a notable milestone for its bold expansion of New Eridu's underworld and its generous compensation for players.

The update maintenance began at 06:00 (UTC+8) on August 14, 2024. To apologize for the downtime, all Proxies at Inter-Knot level 4 or above received a total of 600 Polychromes—300 for the server update and another 300 for known issues. These rewards were distributed via in-game mail and could be claimed until the end of Version 1.1. The development team reminded players that compensation mails expire after 30 days, so unclaimed rewards were lost.

Three New Agents Join the Fray

The headline addition was Qingyi (S-Rank, Stun - Electric), a rapid-stunning Agent who builds up Flash Connect Voltage and enters a [Flash Connect] state. Her finishing move inflicts [Subjugation] and increases the target's Stun DMG Multiplier, making her a valuable asset for burst-focused teams. Qingyi was available through the "Untainted Jade" Signal Search channel.

Next came Jane (S-Rank, Anomaly - Physical), a damage dealer who relies on triggering the [Assault] Anomaly. Her moves accumulate Passion Stream, and upon entering the [Passion] state, her Anomaly Buildup Rate and ATK increase while certain attacks are enhanced. Managing Passion Stream is key—when it depletes, Jane exits [Passion]. She arrived in a later Signal Search channel.

Completing the trio was Seth (A-Rank, Defense - Electric), a support-oriented Agent who provides Attribute Anomaly and survivability buffs. His EX Special Attack builds [Resolve] and grants [Shield of Firm Resolve]. When Resolve exceeds a threshold, holding Basic Attack consumes it to launch [Basic Attack: Lightning Strike - Electrified]. Seth's finishing moves trigger Quick Assists for the previous squad member and grant them a shield that boosts Anomaly Proficiency.

New W-Engines, Bangboo, and Areas

Weapon enthusiasts gained access to several new W-Engines. The S-Rank Ice-Jade Teapot (Stun) was tied to Qingyi's "Dissonant Sonata" channel. The S-Rank Sharpened Stinger (Anomaly) and A-Rank Peacekeeper - Specialized (Defense) arrived in later Signal Searches, while the A-Rank Gilded Blossom (Attack) was obtainable through the "Camellia Golden Week" event. A new S-Rank Bangboo, Officer Cui, could be summoned from the "An Outstanding Partner" channel.

Exploration expanded with two new locations: New Eridu Public Security, unlocked after accepting the Special Episode commission, and Gang Transfer Station, available for a limited time during the same episode. The Special Episode "Undercover R&B" itself became permanently available after completing Main Story Chapter 3, and Qingyi's Agent Story, "The Case of a Missing Bangboo," unlocked after Chapter 2 Interlude. New Trust Events for Jane, Qingyi, and Seth also went live.

Limited-Time Events and Challenges

Version 1.1 offered a packed event schedule. The All-New Programs login event rewarded 10 Encrypted Master Tapes over seven days. Camellia Golden Week ran from August 21 to September 23, 2024, featuring treasure hunting and gold-themed rewards. Scene One, Shot One! turned players into photographers, while Daily Life of a PubSec Officer let them experience law enforcement. Immersive Tactical Drill added a VR challenge, and First-Class Customer Service involved repairing a certain player's broken device.

A new Hollow Zero challenge called Inferno Reap tasked Proxies with suppressing the Symbiotic Ethereal Swarm, codename Nineveh, within 180 seconds to reduce its Ether activity and control Withering. Shiyu Defense also received a permanent "Disputed Node" with eight frontiers and no time limits, as well as updated buffs for "Critical Node."

Quality-of-Life Improvements and Fixes

The patch delivered dozens of optimizations. Chain Attacks gained Auto and Manual trigger modes. A selfie mode with poses and filters was added. Recommended Drive Disc sets and main stats based on usage rates were introduced. Teleporters were added to the HDD in Random Play and to Scott Outpost's Logistics Shop. The New Eridu Public Security area received its own teleporter. Achievements expanded across multiple categories, and the Agent screen gained a specialty filter.

Combat and UI fixes were extensive. The update corrected issues with Soukaku's buffs, Lucy's Guard Boars, Rina's EX Special Attack description, and Ben's block interactions. It also fixed a bug where [Disorder] incorrectly built up Daze, and resolved crashes in Shiyu Defense. Controller and keyboard/mouse inputs were refined, including a Shortcut Wheel needle prompt and number-key selection. Voice actors for Lucy and Soukaku were changed in English, Japanese, and Korean, with corresponding lines replaced.

Hollow Zero saw adjustments: weekly Bounty Commission special tasks dropped from five to two, and rewards for Bangboo System Widgets and Z-Merits increased. Support logic was improved so Agents no longer join the squad unnecessarily. The timer in data recovery now only records time spent during recovery.

Overall, Version 1.1 "Undercover R&B" set a new standard for Zenless Zone Zero's post-launch support, blending substantial character additions with meaningful systemic improvements. Even years later, its impact on team compositions and player expectations remains evident.
